Percutaneous Vertebroplasty procedure in India for effective spinal treatment with rapid recovery

Ms. Sonia Lafond, Canada
Keyhole Spine Surgery

Hi, I am Mrs. Sonia Lafond. I am from Canada. Recently I had my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India. I must say I am fortunate enough to find Indian Medguru Group who did everything for me. Otherwise, I know how much restless life I was leading a couple of weeks before. It was a very good experience of getting my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India. I was restless the moment I was engrossed with the back pain, my life was miserable, I was all lost, with virtually nothing to do except to be on the bed all the time. My husband consulted a doctor, he after listening to all my symptoms did some tests, and physical tests, which confided that my spinal chord is in a bad shape, and I would now require Percutaneous Vertebroplasty to get rid of this constant back pain. The doctor suggested few solutions of having Percutaneous Vertebroplasty procedure in Canada, but they seemed quiet expensive, while others who seemed near by budget had a huge queue to follow.

The doctor then suggested if we would be interested in going for Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India, since there we can get both quality and affordability. He then passed on the contact info of a medical consultant based in India called Indian Medguru Group. After visiting their website, I and my husband realized that it would be worth to take a chance of having my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India.

I therefore, e-mailed my query along with my investigation reports and also enquired about having my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty procedure in India. I got a call the very same day from the executive of Indian Medguru Group. The executive discussed my case with some of their best surgeons and confirmed the need for an urgent surgery. I found it worth opting, and thus gave my consent for my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India. Thus I booked my tickets and reached India for the same.

The treatment that I received in India has been outstanding we were met at the airport by an executive of Indian Medguru Group. He welcomed me and was very pleasant; I was then driven straight to the hospital where I admitted to a very highy sophisticated private room. There were no language barriers as everyone speaks perfect English. Soon my day for the Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India emerged. The procedure is done under conscious sedation. Prior to the start of the procedure, a prophylactic antibiotic is given intravenously. The patient is taken to the fluoroscopy suite and placed in the prone position on the operating room table with all pressure points padded and standard monitoring applied. Care is taken to add extra padding to the table due to the osteoporotic spine and risk of rib fractures. The fluoroscope is then rotated to an oblique position to maximize the oval appearance of the pedicle. It is important to oblique the fluoroscopic view enough to place the facet joint in the middle of the vertebral body and the spinous processes to the contralateral side. This facilitates a central placement of the needle. The target for entry is the superior lateral quadrant of the pedicle in the fluoroscopic view. After the site of entry is identified, a skin is anaesthetized. A small skin incision is made to allow insertion of a large bore biopsy needle. An 11 gauge bone biopsy needle is inserted through the incision. It is advanced in "gun-barrel" fashion in the oblique fluoroscopic view to monitor direction. After placement of the needle, the cement is prepared for injection. The liquid monomer is titrated until it takes on toothpaste like consistency. The injection of the cement is followed under fluoroscopic guidance in the lateral view. When the spread of the cement starts to invade the posterior one third of the vertebral body, injection should be stopped. The cement is 90% fixed at 1 hour. My entire Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India went steady and smooth.

After my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty procedure, I was monitored for 3 hours in a recovery area prior to dismissal. I was supine for 2 hours and then asked to move and sit. I was then discharged with routine pain medications and a graduated resumption of activity. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days and soon retuned to Canada. The recovery was fast and steady. I had my rest and limited my activities as per the surgeon’s advice. My doctor suggested me an exercise program. So after 6 weeks following my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India now, I am perfect, hale and hearty. A huge applauds to my medical consultant the medical team who successfully performed my Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in India
